Education and Learning

Sewerby Hall and Gardens is a superb venue for learners of all ages to visit and enjoy. We can organise sessions for groups of up to 70 students. We have one bookable indoor classroom space, as well as the Orangery which is suitable for larger groups.

Opportunities

There are plenty of opportunities for learners of all ages to choose from. Explore the house, gardens and the zoo, on a self-led visit. Learn even more on a guided tour with one of our education team, or book a workshop to bring the national curriculum to life. We also welcome home educators either individually or in groups and will do our best to provide sessions specifically tailored to your needs.

Self-led visits

For schools planning a self-led visit to Sewerby Hall and Gardens we have downloadable teaching packs for the Zoo, the House and for the Amy Johnson Collection. These provide a range of information, teaching ideas and suggestions supporting the EYFS and National Curriculums.

Please note: if you are planning to visit the house, it is advisable to split your class into groups of less than 12 before coming in, as the rooms are not suitable for large groups. The attendants on duty when you visit will be able to give you more specific advice.

Guided visits

We can offer a range of facilitated activities to enhance your visit, from provision of worksheets, trails and quizzes, handling collections, talks and gallery tours. On Wednesdays and Fridays (between November and April) we can offer costumed and facilitated sessions for schools wishing to investigate life in an Edwardian Country House.

We are also happy to develop bespoke sessions for schools and other learners. For more details and information about the range of facilitated activities available and costs please contact us with your requirements.

Complete fun tasks during your visit and at home or school, then contact us to receive your certificate. The award is a precursor to the Arts Award just for young children. It can be completed by families or by Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) groups. EYFS groups must book group visits in advance.
