We are always looking for enthusiastic people to join our Heritage Volunteer Team. Our Heritage Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the Museum at Sewerby Hall and Gardens and the role includes costumed interpretation of the house and grounds, helping with school workshops and visits, giving guided tours, running craft workshops as well as the research and development of activities, displays and exhibitions.
The role will involve participation in our regular costumed interpretation days meeting our visitors and telling the stories of life in the Hall when it was still a family home. You will support the Education Team in the delivery of activities for children and families and take part in educational workshops for visiting school children.
There will also be opportunities to be involved with research and the development of exhibitions and displays within the Museum.
If you are over 18 you can apply to join the team. Many of our volunteers are retired, but we also have team members who are between jobs or who are building up their experience of working in the Museum and Heritage sector.
As long as you are friendly, personable, enjoy working in a team and willing to participate in activities organised for schools and families you can apply to become a Heritage Volunteer.
We don't require any formal qualifications, but we do look for enthusiasm, and, importantly, a good sense of humour and fun.
An interest in the social history of the country house or the Victorian and Edwardian periods helps, along with a desire to share this interest with our visitors.
You will be part of a team. You will get to meet a wide variety of people and get a behind the scenes view of Sewerby Hall and Gardens. We have regular meetings, training sessions and organised trips to other museums and galleries.
You will also be eligible for a Northern Museums Volunteer Pass which entitles the holder to various benefits in participating museums and galleries across the North of England.
Simply download and fill in the application form then email it to us at sewerby.hall@eastriding.gov.uk. You will then be invited to come to the Hall for an informal chat.
