Sewerby Hall and Gardens plays host to Inspiration for Murder: The Golden Age of the Country House Murder Mystery.
During the interwar years a new genre of crime fiction writing emerged with female authors coming to the fore. This was the Golden Age of the Murder Mystery and a particular subgenre where the remote and secluded country house played a starring role.
Authors such as Agatha Christie and other women formed the Four Queens of Crime who had readers transfixed by colourful characters, clever plot devices and ultimately a mystery to unravel.
