Underwear Autumn at Sewerby Hall, Discover History’s Hidden Layers
Discover history's hidden layers! This winter we have decided that our display mannequins will be dressed in their underwear. This “brief” display will run through the winter opening season. So, if you want to know what was worn beneath a dress 1714 or the undergarments of the lady and gentlemen of the house in 1910 now is the chance.
With a mix of reproduction and original garments, ten mannequins will be on display with examples of underwear from Anglo-Saxon shifts to Tudor blackwork embroidery and Queen Elizabeth I effigy stays, and from Georgian petticoats to Victorian Lobster tails and Corsets.
