A brand new event, unique to the area, will brighten up December at Sewerby Hall and Gardens this year: Sewerby Winter Woodland will take you on a magical outdoor journey of spectacular sounds and lights.
Dress suitably for the weather as the experience is partially outdoors. No dogs allowed, except for guide dogs. Bringing your own torch is optional, these will not be provided.
The Snow Queen has cast a spell on the beautiful woodland, which has come alive with light and sounds.
Join the Sewerby polar explorer on his expedition as you travel through an illuminated tunnel into the winter woods, and embark on a quest into the Snow Queen's domain. Walks will start outside of the Orangery, with groups setting off at 15 minute intervals to maintain space and allow everyone to enjoy the sights.
As you journey deeper into the enchanted woodland, you will have the opportunity to make some winter magic of your own - taking part in activities such as wand making with Moonlight, the enchanted moth; learning spells; and even meeting the Snow Queen herself, before enjoying the grand finale of a superb lighting display set to music!
The house itself will be filled with Christmas decorations and trees, and the lighting will be lowered in the house to add to the magical feel. The House will be open until 9pm. Face coverings are recommended while indoors for the safety of all visitors and staff.
Be sure to take a look at the Making of Christmas exhibition in the house, looking at how the Victorians adopted ancient customs of Chrismastime, as well as working on a few of their own to make the Christmas we know and enjoy today.
Visitors will also be able to sample a range of local craft stalls, a bar, and vintage fairground rides (have a small cost to ride). The play area, zoo and Walled Gardens will be closed.
