The hugely popular Sewerby Winter Woodland is back Friday 6 to Sunday 22 December 2024!

An all-new spectacular display of lights sounds, and special effects will bring the grounds to life for a great evening out this festive season.

This year’s Sewerby Winter Woodland event will include new light installations for 2024 including Gingerbread Lane and a light tunnel, as well as a new theme with a chance to embark on an adventure and meet a host of cheerful festive characters along the way!

Can you rescue Christmas?

The fairytale villagers are having a fantastic festive celebration in the Winter Woodland, and you’re all invited! There’s going to be music, dancing, and the magical Golden Goose is kindly using some of her magic to create beautiful lights throughout the woodland. But someone’s not happy about it… the dastardly Old King Troll has sent troll minions from under his bridge to capture Golden Goose and spoil the festivities!

But fear not! The fabulous feline Puss in Boots and his pantomime pals have embarked on a quest to save the day. Oh no they won’t! Oh yes they will! Clever Golden Goose has left a trail of golden eggs to guide the way as well as clues to the magic needed to defeat Old King Troll.

So why not join us this December on a journey into the Winter Woodland and help Puss defeat the darkness with the biggest and brightest magical light show yet, all in time to celebrate a very merry Christmas at Sewerby Hall and Gardens!

Event Information

Please read the full FAQ section which covers many aspects regarding accessibility for the Winter Woodland event. Contact the Welcome Centre to discuss any specific requirements that you may have with a member of the team.

Are mobility scooters, prams or pushchairs permitted in the house?

No; due to conservation issues, motorised wheelchairs, buggies, or scooters are not permitted in the house. We have a selection of non-motorised wheelchairs available for visitors who need to transfer from a motorised wheelchair to access the house. Wheelchair supports aids are available on request.

In order to preserve our historical items, pushchairs and prams are not permitted in the house or Orangery. Spaces for these items can be found at the rear door of the house and there are locks available; please ring the bell at the back door and a staff member will attend. We have HippyChick Hipseats available for visitors.

Do you offer carers' tickets?

Sewerby Hall is delighted to offer free tickets to carers visiting with their cared-for person through the Bridlington Spa Authorised Carer Ticket Scheme.

Booking your ticket

Free carers’ tickets, once registered on the scheme, can be booked in person at the Sewerby Hall Welcome Centre or over the phone on (01262) 673769.

How to register

We recommend getting registered to the scheme as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. To register for the scheme, the cared-for person will need to provide a copy of the first page of your Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment letter or Access Card (+1) to Bridlington Spa. Evidence of a Blue Badge does not entitle the holder to receive a free carer ticket. Full information on the scheme and how to register can be found on the accessibility page at BridSpa.com (external website)

Please note: Carers tickets must be booked at the same time as the full-paying cared-for persons' ticket. Limit of one free ticket per full-paying ticket. If the cared-for person is unable or chooses not to attend, the carer's ticket is null and void.

Is the walk accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters?

The walk is a mixture of tarmac paths, bark mulch paths and track matting. The walk has some small gradients but nothing substantial. There are a few steps in the pleasure gardens with an alternative route for prams / pushchairs. Due to conservation issues, prams / pushchairs are not permitted in the house therefore when leaving the end light show, a member of the team will direct you to the accessible entrance to the house where your pram / pushchair can be left outside. You may wish to consider using a baby carrier if this is an option for you.

How do I access the house?

Access to the house will be via the Orangery fire doors at the end of the winter woodland walk. This is an accessible entrance for those in wheelchairs and with mobility issues.

Visitors with mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs will need to access the house via the back door of the house where mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs can be left. To access the back of the house, visitors will be asked to turn left at the end of the lightshow on the house and walk towards the band stand, then head towards the courtyard area. Directional signage / a member of staff will be available to guide you.

There will not be any direct access to the front of the house during the 2024 event.

Please note the accessible entrance is a shared space with people entering and exiting the house. If you need any support, please ask a member of the team.

Do I need to wait to see the light show?

The light show on the house will run approximately every 10 minutes from 5.10pm. You may be asked to wait near Snow Drop Wood for a short time to ensure you see the whole light show. Seating is available in the area as well as the option to purchase refreshments. An alternative route is available for those who are unable to queue.

Do you have a Visual Story?

Yes, to help prepare for your visit, we have a created the Visual Story for the Winter Woodland event to show and explain what to expect as part of your experience.

This is a PDF document which you can view and download before your visit or bring with you on a mobile device or printed out. This guide has been written with Autistic children, young people, and people with additional needs in mind.

It covers all areas of the property, and where stimulus may be present, such as sudden or loud sounds, when it may be busy and where to go for quiet space. For further questions or support, please contact our Welcome Centre team.
